The six pack bet

So I made a few bets with different friends, over who could get a better six pack. Those weren’t too hard, I was ahead in both, so only have to not get fat and I pretty much win. Then I made the bet with Lil Miss AbsofSteel. She was still at her college weight, so I knew I was behind. I knew this one would be a challenge. I didn’t realize how much though. We’re in an escalating rae to six pack abs. She was eating brown rice, so I started during lunch (I can’t completely quit white rice.. my parents would disown me)… she started eating quinoa. I started eating quinoa for breakfast… she stopped eating rice. She was doing 300 crunches a day… I started using a medicine ball. She started doing 500. I started doing v-ups. She’s going to move up to 1000. It’s crazy! And fun, in a sadistic sort of way.

Weigh in is March 31, 2010. I think I’m going to start recording my progress here.

October 1: start of the bet: I’m weighing about 148 or 149. Doing machines mostly, +15 minute runs on the treadmill. San da twice weekly

November 28: Was 141.5 over the week, but had some booze for the Rainville wedding reception. Back to 143 today. Doing 1.5 hr workouts normally, running treadmill 1/2 hr stints. Not doing two a days anymore… as much. Now that some joints are starting to hurt, I’m trying to move away from working out the same body parts daily.
I generally have been doing workouts tues, fri mornings, san da mon and thurs mornings. Workouts mon, thurs nights, sometimes fri and sat. It’d be best to do leg workouts the san da days… but it’s hard to get excited about those. Also doing exercise now to build up anterior deltoids, since i neglected them. they’re way behind the other deltoid parts. oops.

Sea cucumbers… NOT cucumber!!!

So I’m watching Next Iron Chef and it turns out sea cucumber.. AIN’T CUCUMBER!!! Omg. It really is a slug. I can’t believe all these years my ma had me believing it was actually vegetable.

Now that my ulcers are acting up again, it seems like it’s gone from “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” to “a banana a day keeps the doctor away”. Oddly appropro.

Hamill was robbed

Just watched Bisping vs Hamill in UFC 75 (old news I know). Hamill totally got robbed in a split decision. He won the first two rounds, the third was close. Only one judge got it right 30-27. It’s amazing how awful that fight was scored. That was frigging BAD.

mentail notes: char siu and mustard bbq sauce

Had a bbq at my place last weekend. I tried out two new items

3 lbs boneless country style pork ribs in a supposed to be char siu sauce

I used basically…

3/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup rice wine
1/4 – 1/3 cup honey
Tbs sugar
some shakes of garlic powder

They weren’t sweet enough (definitely not red either). I kept basting them on the grill so they had a nice coating and they were tasty as hell, but… not sweet enough. So more honey next time. Next time mince a clove or two of garlic and use that.

The other was a completely new experiment. I had some french’s dijon so I used that up (it’d be a pile in my palm) + some other dijon in my fridge, so maybe 1/3 cup, not quite.
1/2+ cup white vinegar
1/2 cup rice wine (i think)
1/2 cup brown sugar
Tbs red pepper
Tsp white pepper
Tsp black pepper
Few shakes of basil
Few pads of butter

Cooked that up a little bit, just to boil and simmer a bit, so red pepper taste spread into it all

1 full rack of ribs got marinaded and basted. Turned out pretty good with a slight lingering heat.

Monday night my brother and I staved off the last wave of Horde in GOW2. Nate died early and spotted. Didn’t even need K&J who ran off at level 48.

So my hopes were realized last night when the championship round only booted one chef. There’s 5 left which means 4 more episodes! I’m psyched. And Anita Lo is bad ass.
